Editing Events
Once you've added your events, you may need to adjust one or more. You can adjust the vertical position, the start interval, and the span, or you can change the title or even customize the event's style (so that it is styled independently of the main event style settings).
Adjusting the Vertical Position
- Click and hold the start interval cap of the event you wish to edit.
- Drag the mouse up or down to adjust the event's vertical position. (Note: Dragging the start interval cap left or right will also adjust the event's start interval.)
- Release the mouse when you're done positioning the event.
Adjusting the Start Interval
- Click and hold the start interval cap of the event you wish to edit.
- Drag the mouse left or right to adjust the event's start interval. (Note: Dragging the start interval cap up or down will also adjust the event's vertical position.)
- Release the mouse when you're done adjusting the start interval.
Adjusting the Span
- Click and hold the span cap of the event you wish to edit.
- Drag the mouse left or right to adjust the event's span. (Note: Dragging the span cap to the left past the start interval cap will set the span to zero, making the event a single point in time.)
- Release the mouse when you're done adjusting the span.
Editing the Event Title
- Click anywhere on the title of the event you wish to edit. The title will be selected and ready for editing.
- Type the new title and press return to end editing (or simply press return without typing to cancel editing).
Editing the Event Style
You can edit the style for all events by using the "Event Appearance" panel of the timeline controls or define a custom style for an individual event using the Event Inspector.
Notes
Events cannot 'collide' with other events. If you attempt to move an event into a position that will overlap an existing event, it will not move until you position the mouse over an empty area on the timeline. The event will not reposition if you are adjusting the span; you must first move the event to a position where there's room enough for the desired span.
The "ceiling" of your timeline automatically adjusts to contain all events. If you run out of room, drag the event toward the top of the timeline document (past the dotted line) and the ceiling will automatically expand as you position the event.
If you make a mistake, you can always undo!
